Frequently Asked Questions
Q:What is the eFolio system?
A:The eFolio system is the College of Education's mechanism for documenting and tracking student mastery of the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices ( FEAP's ) . The FEAP's are Florida's standards for the teaching profession. Florida International University is held accountable for ensuring that students meet these standards in their teacher education programs.
Q:How will I demonstrate that I've met the standards?
A:As you complete the program, you will create a set of artifacts from your coursework that will be archived in the eFolio system. In each required content course, there will be one performance task or assignment that is designated for eFolio. The eFolio task is designed to evidence your accomplishment of one or more FEAP's . By the time you are ready for student teaching, you will have compiled a set of artifacts that demonstrate your competency at least twice in each Florida Educator Accomplished Practice.
Q:Where will my eFolio artifacts be stored?
A:You will store your artifacts in a folder created for you on the College of Education Server. Students and faculty access the eFolio system via the eFolio Web site at http://coeserver03.fiu.edu/efolio. Except for the home page and links, this is a secure site not accessible to the public. You will need a username and password to log onto the site.
Q:What can I do at the eFolio web site?
A:At the eFolio Web site, you can do all of the following:
  • View the curriculum - the eFolio performance tasks and rubrics for all program courses (optional)
  • View the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices demonstrated by the performance tasks (optional)
  • View and update your personal information (optional)
  • Upload an artifact to the eFolio system for a course (required)
  • View all of the artifacts you have uploaded to the system (optional)
  • Upload a personal homepage and other Web pages you choose (optional). You can give the address of your Web page to anyone you wish to view it.
Q:When will I upload my eFolio artifacts to the eFolio system?
A:Before the end of each required content course, you will upload your completed artifact (Word file, PowerPoint file, etc.) to your folder in the eFolio system. You can only upload your artifact to the system after you have been authorized to do so by your professor.

NOTE:  Only students who achieve the required score on the eFolio assignment, based on assessment criteria set by the professor, will be authorized to upload their artifacts. If your work is not acceptable you will need to redo your work so that it meets the standards of quality established by your professor. If by the end of the semester you have not uploaded a satisfactory artifact, you will receive a grade of Incomplete in the course.
Your professor will let you know when he or she has authorized your artifact to be uploaded to the
eFolio system.
Q:How do I log into the eFolio web site?
A:You log into eFolio from the homepage at http://coeserver03.fiu.edu/efolio. To log into eFolio you must key in your eFolio username and password (these fields are not case sensitive):
  • Your eFolio system username is your FIU student email username. If you do not know your email username, go to http://intra.fiu.edu/irm/sckb/ and click on Student Knowledge Base. Key in your social security number to obtain your FIU email username.
  • Your initial eFolio password is the first four letters of your last name and the last four digits of your Student ID Number. You can change your password once you have logged into the system.
Q:Where can I get help with using eFolio?
A:There are several ways for students to get help with eFolio:
  • An eFolio Student Manual provides step-by-step instructions for using the Web site, such as uploading artifacts, viewing the curriculum, etc. You can view this manual on-line or download a PDF version of the manual from the eFolio site. Hard copies of the manual are also available in the COE computer lab in ZEB 165 for use while in the lab.
  • All ZEB 165 computer lab support staff have been trained in the eFolio system and can assist you at any time in the lab.
  • If you experience any problems that cannot be solved with the help of computer lab support staff, the Support link on the eFolio site will put you in touch with the eFolio administrator to troubleshoot your problem.
NOTE:  Do not ask your professor for help using the eFolio site. Faculty have their own eFolio roles and responsibilities. They are not responsible for providing technical support to students.
